Without fail, my boys get croup. Every. Single. Winter. It usually means we wind up in the ER (because croup is worse at night). Horrible barking cough. Trouble breathing. It's miserable for everyone. But I've become pretty good at spotting a croupy cough during the day, which means we can get a steroid prescription and skip the emergency room visit. I also always run a
cool mist humidifier

non-stop when croup is visiting. Ever since my chiropractor told me, I've been using
eucalyptus oil
in my cool mist humidifier. The scent helps open up the airways and did you know, eucalyptus is a natural antiseptic? Smells good and keeps the vaporizer clean!
ps You can also rub a little eucalyptus oil under the neck and on the feet. Using it on the feet is suppose to help the cough :)
Stay well my friends! We are just getting over a round of sicknesses over here. And poor sweet baby N is still trying to get well.
Bummer! Luckily, I've only had to experience the croup once so far. Can you tell me how much eucalyptus oil is recommended?
ReplyDeleteI usually use 2-3 drops in a full tank of water. A little goes a long way.
ReplyDeletedo you know if this is appropriate for all ages? my 5 year old gets croup every winter. I will put this in her humidifier for sure! The baby has a cough right now too though (7 months old) and I'm wondering if I can use it in her humidifier too.
ReplyDeleteKelly : My youngest is four months and I use it with him. My chiropractor, who is also a pediactric chiropractor said it is completely fine. Hope your little one is feeling better soon!
